Cappadocia means Land of beautiful horses and it is a region with a
long history. Originally an independent kingdom, it later became a roman province.
During the 7th century, invading Arabs drove the Christian population of that
time into the hills, where they carved churches and dwellings out of the soft rock
and even created underground cities that you can visit. Avanos is the pottery
center. The area is filled with incredible rock formations, friendly people and
is largely devoid of tourists. The landscape will often feel surrealistic, as you
pass through a fantastic landscape created by ancient volcanic eruptions, now
eroded by time, wind and water. Riders also visit the remains of troglodyte villages
and travel through valleys and over mountains with steep ascents and descents,
sometimes requiring riders to walk their horses. Have a look at our map.
Cappadocia is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
