Today, the central Anatolian town of Avanos has built up a fine reputation
for its pottery making and has become a place where the traditions of İznik
and Kütahya china ware live on. Located in the Cappadocian
region, Avanos is not only rich in raw material resources needed for producing
ceramics, but it is also an important center of tourism. The traditional practice
of making Turkish china ware and tiles
is applied by Çeç Pottery, which takes its name from the nearby tumulus, called Çeç (spelled chach
as in chat), was set up at a commanding height above the shores of the Kızılırmak, the longest river in
Turkey.
